When Love Blossoms across the Soccer Field

Gotta love a couple who meet playing Fustal – very cool!

These guys didn’t lock eyes in the locker room but there was definitely some love dust on that soccer field because Jimmy went to A LOT of trouble to get Sharon over the line. A super sentimental and beautifully planned proposal ended on the Uluwatu Cliffops at one of our most favourite Bali Wedding Villas ever!  Sharon shares all her inside tips and the Bali Wedding Vendors she loved using.  Enjoy!

Bride Name: Sharon
Groom Name: Jimmy
Where do you live? Melbourne, Australia
Wedding Date: 1/10/2017

Tell us, how did you meet? Was it Love at first sight?
We met playing futsal (indoor soccer). It was definitely not love at first sight as we were seeing other people at the time. Our love developed through friendship and time.

What about the engagement story? Can you give us a snapshot?
We planned a weekend trip way to the beach (a beach we visit every summer). He organized for our friends to drive me down and without my knowledge.  He was already there waiting for me  surrounded by a with a whole collection of photos of our relationship!

So you decided to become Mr & Mrs… Why Bali?
Along with my family, we holiday in Bali every year so we thought it was fitting to get married there. It was also a more unique choice as our family and friends had not been to a destination wedding before.

How did you choose your Bali wedding planner? What was her/his Super Power?
Chimene Harper was recommended to us.  She is amazing with her knowledge of Bali and connections to event companies. She is very thorough with her work and gives you her full attention and service. She also fights for what you want for your wedding.

Did you have a theme for the wedding? And was it a late night Pinterest obsession?
There was definitely a lot of Pinterest and Instagram stalking involved. In the end it was a rustic/romantic kind of feel with beautiful soft colours.

Did you sit down for a formal dinner or party the night away with canapés and cocktails?
We had a buffet sit down dinner so there were lots of opportunities for our guests to move around and interact with one another.  We opted for pool party instead of a dance floor

What was the most challenging aspect about planning a destination wedding?
Having a wedding planner made the actual planning of the wedding so much easier but the most difficult part was ensuring all our family and friends could  be there.  2 weeks before we got married, Mt Agung started playing up. Flights were getting cancelled and the chance of eruption was very, very high. We were very stressed about the possibility of having to cancel or postpone but we were very lucky and blessed that everything worked out and everyone made it to our wedding.

Talk to us about your hair and make up.
My make up was really natural – Yeanne did an amazing job.  I enjoy a bit of a shimmer and sparkle and she really did the best job.. I wish I had her to do my make up every day!

Tell us about your D R E S S ?
My dress is from an Etsy store called MyWony Bridal. I knew from the very beginning that I didn’t want to wear a white dress so I started looking at colours and stumbled upon this dress very early on in my research. I tried on things in a similar style to make sure I would look good in it. Nothing locally in Melbourne was quite what I wanted or at the price I wanted so I bought it online. It came and I only had to make some minor adjustments. It was great that it was so thin because it was very hot that afternoon.

What was THE most memorable part of your big day?
This one is very difficult as every moment was so fun and special. I think it was walking down the aisle and seeing all our family and friends there and then seeing my husband at the end waiting for me.

If there was one piece of advice you could give a Bali bride planning their big day, what would it be?
Definitely find a wedding planner. It is worth the money! And find a planner  you can get along really well  with – one who will give you their full attention.
