Laura & Finn's Colourful Beachfront Bali Wedding

Lovebirds Laura & Finn first met when studying a year abroad and Laura found herself at Finn's house party. Finn was quick to ask Laura to play beerpong with him and the rest is history. After the sweetest Bali proposal when Laura's Mum was in town, they had the opportunity to share the news in person and celebrate together. These guys decided to tie the knot in their favourite place (and their current home), beautiful Bali – a celebration shared with their nearest and dearest.

With an idea in their heads and plenty of screenshots from our very own website, Bali Event Hire, Laura & Finn set out to plan a divine day at Bali Wedding Venue, Villa Vedas in Tabanon. After a year planning they felt the urge to change their concept and quickly pulled together a new look and design with their creative wedding planner.

Describing their wedding planning experience as totally stress-free, these guys were lucky enough to have the uber talented wedding planner Anastasia from Wonderland Bali on board for their planning, floristry and styling to help create their perfect Bali nuptials – and we think you’ll agree they completely nailed it!

Set on the beachfront, Laura & Finn's celebration was filled with colourful blooms and modern luxe furniture pieces from Bali Event Hire. A pretty ceremony overlooking the ocean, they opted for the Palm Springs Benches which were filled with woven Bali fans and colourful petals to throw over the couple in celebration.

Post-nuptials, guests enjoyed cocktails and Bintangs on the lawn with our cocktail furniture before sitting down for a magical dinner overlooking the ocean. A relaxed vibe was created using our white nordic chairs and white dining tables, adorned with colourful blooms, long stem candles in multiple colours and woven placemats and with gold cutlery. As the sun went down, guests danced the night away barefoot on the lawn.

Laura also shares her tips on calming down with the ultimate hair and makeup team Glo Day Spa and how she used Bali Event Hire to source inspiration and advice in the lead up to their special day!

Tell us, how did you meet? Was it Love at first sight?
We met in 2017 during our semester abroad. We both studied for one semester in Bali – Finn was studying originally in Hamburg, Laura in Munich in Germany. We met over a friend, who brought Laura to Finns Houseparty. Finn asked Laura to play beerpong together and that’s how everything started. We saw each other before on another event, but didn’t really talk – so probably love at second sight!

What about the engagement story? Can you give us a snapshot?
We moved 2020 together to Bali and in May 2021 Lauras mom came to visit us in Bali. We did a little trip to east Bali and one night, it was just the two of us at the beach watching the stars, Finn went to our Hotelroom and brought the ring to propose. It was actually really nice to share the news in person the next day to lauras mother and celebrate together.

So you decided to become Mr & Mrs… Why Bali?
We met in Bali, we felt in Love in Bali, we moved back to Bali and Bali is now our Base – so there was no other place in the world to celebrate our love and our Bali Wedding.

How did you choose your Bali wedding planner? What was her/his Super Power?
We searched via Instagram for some options and the Instagram Page of Anastasia from Wonderland Bali was so stunning and beautiful. The most impressive thing for us, that she actually does all the decoration and floristic by herself. She has so many wonderful ideas, inspiration and did her job amazingly! Especially when our big day came close, we texted every day! She literally helped us with everything and we couldn’t be happier about the end result.

Did you have a theme for the wedding? And was it a late night Pinterest obsession?!
We didn’t really had a theme, but I wanted as many colours as possible. Bali sometimes is really grey/ green/ dark – especially with the dark beaches. So our vision was to bring all the beautiful colours together and make it pop! On top we wanted ocean elements and a lot of colourful candles. It was really perfect!

How involved were you in the creative process?
100%! At the beginning we had a different vision, but as we were planning for quiet a while, our vision changed after a year. Anastasia was so flexible and we created a new creative concept. We are so grateful for all the input from Anastasia!

Did you sit down for a formal dinner or party the night away with canapés and cocktails?
We had a really beautiful dinner with all our loved ones, who came all the way from Europe! We loved it so much sitting under the stars, surrounded by fairy lights, eating good food and chatting with our families and friends. The dinner was the first time we actually calmed down, which was super nice. Tell us about your music.

Did you have a special song to walk down the aisle to?
It was all about Taylor Swift! I am so so grateful, that Finn allowed me to live my personal dream. I am obsessed with Taylor Swift since the beginning and I always dreamed about her music on my wedding. So the walking down the aisle song was Love Story in a ukulele acoustic version, after the I do we played Paper Rings from her and our first dance was Lover.

What was the most challenging aspect about planning a destination wedding?
As we live in Bali it was not a big deal for us, but for our families and friends. It was obviously hard for us, that not everyone could make it (especially grandparents etc.). But we appreciate everyone, who came all the way down to Bali.

Did you get to spend much time with your guests who travelled for your wedding? Did you host a day after party or a night before welcome dinner?
We had a beautiful welcome dinner, which was important, because our parents never met before. So that was really exciting for us. We also traveled with our families and friends to Gili Air 2 days after the wedding for 5 days. There we had a lot of time to get to know each other and enjoy the little island life.

Talk to us about your hair and make up. Who was your muse?
I booked my hair and makeup team from Glo Day Spa and they were amazing. Not only the styling itself was amazing, but also the way they calmed me down and entertained me during the process was great! My inspiration was northern boho style. I loved my flower crown and my braids & curls – it was really perfect. I wish I could wear a flower crown everyday :D

Tell us about your D R E S S ?
A friend recommended ASMARA Bridal to me and it was such a beautiful experience. The owner and designer is such a lovely lady. She designed me my perfect Dress inspired by Pinterest and combination of different dresses I tried at the shop. We left Bali 2 months before the wedding and came back 2 weeks prior. So I tried on my dress very last minute before the big day. I was soooo nervous, but she made me feel so great and beautiful. The best thing was, everyone on the wedding told me, that if they would have needed to choose a dress for me, it would be exactly this one. So I guess it was the right choice! On top I loved to only “rent” the dress, which got designed for me. It’s such a sustainable way of fashion.

What was THE most memorable part of your big day?
There was not THE moment or part of the day. It was overall just so beautiful, relaxed, and special. I loved to finally have all of our family and friends on our home island Bali and to celebrate love together. BUT if we need to choose, around midnight my beautiful husband changed our party from a wedding to a pool party and jumped into the pool from the Bridge.

It was so funny and memorable! If there was one piece of advice you could give a Bali bride planning their big day, what would it be?
Plan enough time between every single program point. We sometimes felt a bit stressed between photo shooting, speeches, bouquet toss, dinner and so on. Plan more time and plan to relax as a couple alone in between (without feeling bad). What we did is, we had 2 moments, where we just went into our room and relaxed for 5 minutes (just the two of us) in the aircon.

It was so important and nice to calm down. Any other big news since your wedding?
No news, but can we please get married again?
