A Romeo and Juliet Beginning for this Bali Bride

Think beautiful Bondi, a pretty girl sits on her balcony and a handsome guy calls out to her every day from his garden below. He does this so many times, over so many days and weeks that she eventually invites him over. And that was literally that. The next chapter was a spectacular Bali Wedding.

Gorgeous Bali Bride Aimee talks us through all the details of her and Massimo’s big day… from her incredible Bali Wedding Planner, to an engagement mishap on Gili T to giant Jenga and her divine doughnut towers.

Enjoy!

Bride Name: Aimee Coyle (Aimee Saro)
Groom Name: Massimo Saro
Where do you live? Rose Bay, Sydney NSW
Wedding Date: 30 December 2017

Tell us, how did you meet? Was it Love at first sight?
We were next door neighbours living in Bondi.  It was slightly Romeo and Juliet with my balcony  \looking down onto his garden, and he would shout up to me “Hey, Baby Girl (my forever nickname)” daily until I eventually invited him over to my place, we were inseparable from that moment!

What about the engagement story? Can you give us a snapshot?
We actually got engaged on a Bali trip, while we were over on Gili T. It didn’t quite go as Massimo planned!  Lets just say his search for “ice “ to chill a bottle of champagne on for the special moment was slightly misinterpreted by the locals!

So you decided to become Mr & Mrs… Why Bali?
Although we met and live in Sydney, Mass is actually from Sicily and I’m from Scotland, we don’t have any of our immediate family here, so it was hard to choose between either of our home countries for a wedding!

We loved Bali and it had special memories after we got engaged there too.  It was also nice for us to have all our families together in a beautiful relaxed holiday destination without anybody having to “host”

How did you choose your Bali wedding planner?  What was her/his Super Power?
I came across Jess in a Women’s business forum on Facebook that we were both part of. I saw a post that she or someone recommending her had made and contacted her with a VERY initial enquiry.  But she was just so super helpful and friendly that it made the decision to go with a Bali wedding that much easier. I miss talking to her now that the wedding has past! She was lightning fast to respond to any questions or request I sent, and went above and beyond to make everything perfect.  Her super power was definitely managing to not call me crazy for some of the requests I sent her – just always coming up with a solution!

Did you have a theme for the wedding? And was it a late night Pinterest obsession?!
We didn’t really have a theme as such, just wanted it to be a very relaxed, casual day, with lots of love and laughter! With the décor it was just very simple neutral elegance as the venue was already so stunning it didn’t need much!

Did you sit down for a formal dinner or party the night away with canapés and cocktails?
We had cocktails and canapés followed by a buffet dinner later on.  The food was absolutely delicious!

Did you have a special song to walk down the aisle to?
We ended up with a very special song, but only choose it a few days before the wedding.   Despite my initial “no Ed Sheeran songs” demands from the start, I actually ended up walking down the aisle to his duet of Perfect with Andrea Boccelli – it was perfect for us as this version is half in English and half in Italian, and its actually a beautiful song, by two amazing voices!  Glad we changed our mind at the last minute

What was the most challenging aspect about planning a destination wedding?
Getting people to respond to the invite was frustrating! But to help organize family and friends arriving who had never been to Bali before was probably the most challenging part, and having to accept the fact that a lot of people dear to us wouldn’t be able to make it.  However in terms of the actual planning – with Jess on our team, I was literally not once worried about one single aspect of the ceremony or the day. And I had no reason to be – it was flawless

Talk to us about your hair and make up. Who was your muse?
I had the wonderful and gorgeous Metri Make Over.  What an absolutely gorgeous soul, who really made me feel and look beautiful and special.  We had such a fun time getting hair and make up done by Metri and his lovely team. I don’t normally wear much make up so just wanted to keep a very simple and natural look with both the hair and make up, and I was really happy with the way it turned out.

Tell us about your D R E S S ?
In total I tried on only 3 dresses, all in the same night at a trunk show in Sydney with two of my girl friends.  The designer is Nurit Hen, an Israeli designer whos dresses I’d admired for a while. I tried on the dress once, My measurements were taken that evening and that was the one and only time until the dress was custom made for me and shipped form Israel 6 weeks before the wedding date!  Amazingly it fitted perfectly only needing a few cm off the length. I actually bought the dress before we had even decided that Bali was our destination! It worked out to be a good choice though, and I absolutely loved wearing it. (it’s for sale now on stillwhite.com!!!!)

What was THE most memorable part of your big day?
The whole day was memorable and I loved every minute, but it was just really special to have all my family and close friends together having lots of fun and laughs.  It’s the first time we have all been together in so many years so it was pretty special, it was also the first time they had been to Bali and they loved it!

If there was one piece of advice you could give a Bali bride planning their big day, what would it be?
Firstly….Get in touch with Jess @ Q Events!

And most importantly, don’t let anyone define how your day will be, its about you and your future husband so do things your way, don’t try  to please anyone and definitely not everyone! Enjoy it, and smile even when you think nobody is looking!!!
