Bride: Emma Vipond
Groom: Jules Cooke
Where do you live? Melbourne Australia (for now!!)
Wedding Date: 9th September, 2016
Tell us, how did you meet? Was it love at first sight?
Jules and I met through friends nearly 10 years ago at a Pub in Melbourne. We started seeing each other really briefly then I moved to London for almost 3 years. I came back to Melbourne and within a month of being home, we caught up for a drink and we have been together ever since! It was love at first sight, but it was just meant to be!
What about the engagement story? Can you give us a snapshot?
Jules proposed in Bali (of course)! He wanted the timing to be right and during the week we went to prime engagement spots like El Kabron (as the sun was setting) and the old Finns (now called Sundays) in Uluwatu, but the timing/place was never right. Instead, he saw that something chilled was more us – he ended up proposing in our villa, with champagne and a charcuterie board in our bathers at sunset – it was perfect!
So you decided to become Mr & Mrs… Why Bali?
Bali is such a special place to us and we spend a lot of time there. It was a no brainer for us.
How did you choose your Bali wedding planner? What was her/his Super Power?
We were so lucky to find Kira from Hitch’d through my blog The Bali Whisperer. We wanted something a little different and Kira just “got us” from day one! Her communication was amazing, and was able to understand and implement our vision to a tee. Nothing was ever too much trouble or too hard!
Did you have a theme for the wedding? And was it a late night Pinterest obsession?!
We just wanted Tropical Fun and we wanted it to be a big party with lots of colour! I had a pretty good idea of what I/We (haha) wanted from the get go, so we didn’t need to Pinterest too much! I have a background in events so my vision was clear from the start.
How involved were you in the creative process?
I was VERY involved (Poor Kira)! Fortunately, Kira did an amazing job and was able to implement and coordinate everything on the day, exactly as I wanted.
Did you sit down for a formal dinner or party the night away with canapés and cocktails?
We started with cocktails and moved into a sit down dinner. We had the incredible Merah Putih do our catering and it was absolutely amazing – we have a lot of foodie friends being from Melbourne so impeccable Food and Beverage was a non negotiable for us!
Tell us about your music. Did you have a special song to walk down the aisle to?
We were lucky enough to have a couple of very good friends of ours sing at our ceremony, which was very special. I walked down the aisle to a customized version of Latch by Sam Smith. Following this they performed somewhere over the Rainbow with a Ukulele! Finally, our signing was complimented by Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder. Our gorgeous friends sang during the cocktails, then the amazing DJ Arshad came on, as well as Neam Percussion – both were absolute show stoppers!!!
What was the most challenging aspect about planning a destination wedding?
I honestly don’t think that there are any more challenges planning a destination wedding that if you were to get married at home. If you have the right team of people helping you, then it doesn’t have to be stressful. This is the key though – have a fabulous wedding planner!
Did you get to spend much time with your guests who travelled for your wedding? Did you host a day after party or a night before welcome dinner?
Yes, we were lucky to spend quite a bit of time with our family and friends –most were on the island for a week, plus we organised a pre wedding dinner at Motel Mexicola for everyone, and a recovery party at the Villa for everyone the day after the wedding. It was an absolute blast having them there the whole time!
Talk to us about your hair and make up. Who was your muse?
I’m pretty minimal here, I knew I wanted my hair back off my face and I wanted natural, understated make up. My Bridesmaids were the same, just with a hot pink lip for a bit of fun. Ranny and her team nailed it!
Tell us about your D R E S S ?
My dress was a Rue de Saine dress from The Bridal Atelier in Melbourne. As soon as I saw it I knew it was my dress. I wanted something a bit more relaxed that was going to be comfortable in the heat and not too heavy.
What was THE most memorable part of your big day?
Of course.. marrying Jules!! However, I really relaxing and simply hanging out in the morning with my girlfriends, Mum and Aunty. For the event itself, it was a definite highlight to see all of the people that I loved in one place, so relaxed and happy. Also.. Neam Percussion – absolutely amazing! They had Jules and I go on the water drums, become soaking wet!! What’s better is that I had no idea before hand – it was so fun!
